This one wasn’t in the plan, but sometimes curiosity leads to the best makes. After sewing a stack of Alex Sweatshirts, I wondered what would happen if I skipped the hem band on View A (the longer version) and left it as is.
The result? Waffle jersey + a simple hem finish = the comfiest not-quite-tee, not-quite-sweatshirt. It’s loose, easy, and has that perfectly lived-in feel. Alex was designed as a sweatshirt, but it turns out it makes a pretty great everyday long-sleeve tee too.

The hack
-
Sized down one size
-
Skipped the waistband
-
Finished the hem with a serged edge
No other pattern changes needed. Simple as that.
Fabric
I used cotton waffle jersey for this hack, but any knit fabric lighter than the recommended heavy sweatshirting will do. I can see this working in bamboo sweatshirting, French terry, or even cotton interlock knit. I’d stay away from slinky bamboo or lightweight cotton jerseys -but then again, curiosity and experiments sometimes pay off!
